Where It All Started

Students gathered for an FCA Huddle at Galena High School
FCA Huddle at Galena High School • September 2026

Today was a pretty special day for me.

Almost 30 years ago, I was a student at Galena High School and served as the FCA Huddle Captain. Today I got to go back as FCA staff and spend a few minutes with the current Huddle.

It was pretty cool to be back.

I started by introducing three local youth pastors who are going to be involved with FCA at Galena this year. I'm really excited about that. One of our goals with FCA is to connect students with the local church and with people who can continue to walk alongside them outside of the Huddle.

I also had about 5-7 minutes to share The Four, FCA's simple presentation of the Gospel.

I focused on one idea: the Gospel is a story of redemption.

We went back to Genesis and talked about how God created us in His image and created us to be in relationship with Him. We see that picture of God walking in the garden with Adam and Eve. That's what we were created for. We were created to know God and walk in relationship with Him.

Sin broke that relationship, and Jesus came to redeem what was broken.

It was a simple message, but I wanted the students to understand that the Gospel is about more than forgiveness. Through Jesus, we can be restored to the relationship with God that we were created to have. That's where we ultimately find our purpose and fulfillment.

There was something really meaningful about getting to share that message in the same FCA Huddle that was such an important part of my own story almost 30 years ago.

A lot has changed since I was a student at Galena, but the Gospel hasn't.

I'm grateful I got to go back and share it with another generation.
